Local legislator receives Farm Bureau Silver Windmill Award

Hardin, Montana—Senator Gayle Lammers, (R-SD-21) received a Silver Windmill Award from the Montana Farm Bureau Tuesday evening during the Big Horn County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting at J & D Meats in Hardin.

The Silver Windmill is legislative recognition given to Montana state lawmakers who demonstrate consistent support for agriculture, natural resources, and rural communities during a legislative session.

Lammers was appointed to the House in 2023 and ran for the Montana Senate in 2024, where he served during the 2025 Legislative Session. He will be going back to Helena in January for the 2027 Legislative Session.

Lammers, who owns Lammers Trading Post in Hardin, explained his opportunity to visit with many different people because of his business, including ranchers, tribal members and community residents, led him to run for office.

“I figured it was my duty to get in there and bring people together. It’s important that rural Montana is represented,” said Lammers. He serves on the Senate Energy and Technology Interim Committee. In the 2027 Legislative Session, he expects to see bills this year on data centers and energy consumption.

“Representing my constituents in agriculture is very important. Rural America needs to be heard,” Lammers said, adding that he is always happy to hear about the concerns and thoughts of his constituents.

During the Big Horn meeting, the members heard from MFBF state staff and leaders, discussed issues of concern, voted on board members and selected members to attend the delegate session at the Montana Farm Bureau Annul Convention November 15-18 in Billings.
