BOZEMAN, Mont. - Montana Farm Bureau is proud to recognize Justin Miller for representing Montana agriculture during Governor Greg Gianforte’s recent trade mission to India. From October 5 – 9, 2026, state leaders, agricultural stakeholders, and business representatives joined forces and set out to strengthen relationships while expanding opportunities for Montana producers in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.

As part of a Montana delegation that included representatives from agriculture, higher education, manufacturing, critical minerals, bioscience, and emerging technology sectors, Miller participated in discussions focused on increasing market access, strengthening international partnerships, and highlighting the quality and reliability of Montana agricultural products. The mission, led by Governor Gianforte, also included stops in Sri Lanka and represented Montana’s first governor-led trade mission to India.

India represents a sizable opportunity for Montana agriculture. As the world's largest consumer and importer of pulse crops, the country is an important market for Montana-grown lentils, chickpeas, and peas. Montana leads the nation in pulse crop production, positioning the state to help meet India’s growing food demand while creating new economic opportunities for farmers and ranchers back home.

"International trade remains a critical component of Montana agriculture's success, and missions like this allow producers to build relationships that can translate into long-term opportunities for our farm and ranch families," said Miller. "India's growing population, expanding middle class, and increasing demand for high-quality agricultural products make it an important market for Montana producers. It was an honor to help showcase the strength and value of Montana agriculture on an international stage."

Throughout the mission, delegation members met with government officials, trade representatives, importers, agricultural partners, educational institutions, and business leaders to discuss opportunities for expanded cooperation. Governor Gianforte emphasized the importance of establishing reliable, long-term trading relationships that benefit both Montana producers and international customers.

For Montana Farm Bureau, participation in the mission aligns with the organization's longstanding commitment to advancing policies and opportunities that strengthen farm and ranch profitability. As global demand for food continues to grow, access to international markets remains essential for Montana producers seeking diverse marketing opportunities and stable demand for their commodities.

"Trade is not simply about exports; it's about relationships," Miller said. "Montana farmers and ranchers produce some of the highest-quality food and agricultural products in the world. Building trust with customers overseas helps ensure those products and hard work continues to reach consumers who value reliability and quality."

The mission also highlighted Montana's broader economic strengths and historic connections to India. Delegates promoted the state's agricultural leadership, research capabilities, educational partnerships, and innovative industries while exploring an alternative supply chain for our tech sector. Governor Gianforte noted that the trip was designed to showcase Montana as a premier place for doing business while expanding opportunities for producers, researchers, and entrepreneurs alike.

Miller also expressed his appreciation for Governor Greg Gianforte's leadership in championing Montana agriculture and creating opportunities for producers to connect with growing global markets.

"I want to thank Governor Gianforte for his strong leadership and commitment to Montana agriculture," Miller said. "His dedication to advocating for our producers, both at home and abroad, is helping open doors for future growth and opportunity. By leading missions like this, he is ensuring Montana agriculture has a seat at the table.”

Montana Farm Bureau looks forward to building on the relationships established during the mission and continuing efforts to expand opportunities for Montana agriculture and the economic vitality of Montana's rural communities.
